6th grade students recently finished a large unit on Music in Art. We discussed how music can serve as inspiration for our artwork and saw how it has influenced artists in the past like Kandinsky. There were three different styles of music we explored including classical, jazz, and electronic. Student drew silhouettes and filled them with what classical music looked like in their heads while listening to it. They learned how the repetition and call and response in jazz relates to zentangle and they use electronic music to inspire large-scale abstract paintings. 7th and 8th grade students explored the portraits of Chuck Close. We watched a video of how he works in his study and overcame adversity to continue his art. Students closely examined different portraits of his and used the grid method to create a large-scale self-portrait in the style of Chuck Close. This Saturday, December 5th, there will be an artist's reception at New Seasons for our art show! Bring friends, families, and neighbors to come support MG art students. The reception will be from 9:30-11:00 AM and free light refreshments will be served. The art will be on display for the whole month of December so you can stop by any time to view the amazing artworks! New Seasons Market is located at 2100 SE 164th Avenue Vancouver, WA 98683 |
