First graders made their own self-portraits in class using oil pastels. We looked at different examples of portraits and self-portraits and discussed what we can learn about a person based on what they have in their portrait. Students then added something to their background or clothes to share a little about themselves with the viewer.

We "danced lines" onto our paper in 2nd Grade! We read The Noisy Paint Box and discovered the work of Kandinsky. Students discussed abstract art and how music can inspire visual art. We then listened to jazz music and students could get up and dance with their paintbrushes creating their own Kandinsky-inspired art.
Our 1st grade class learned about the fiber arts and weaving using different materials, including paper. For this project students painted paper with different designs and colors and then cut them into strips and used one paper for the loom.
