2nd Grade had a great time "dancing lines" onto their paper! We studied the art of Wassily Kandinsky and even saw a video from the 1920s of him painting just like we did. We talked about how his paintings had a lot of movement and how he was inspired by music. First, we learned about different types of lines and how to paint them. Then we listened to jazz music and moved our brushes in the air with the music. Finally we danced our lines and colors onto the paper for musical masterpieces!
We are studying Starry Night by Van Gogh in Kindergarten. We have looked at how he shows light and movement. We watched a time lapse video of the stars moving across the night sky in reality and discussed how it was similar to the effect Van Gogh created. Check back for our finished nightscapes!
5th grade experimented with warm and cool colors to create stylized sunset landscapes. The stylized (or not realistic) elements here are the patterning and distinct shapes added.
