Both 2nd grade art classes have been having fun with music and abstract art. We read The Noisy Paintbox and learned about the art of Wassily Kandinsky. Students explored different types of lines and using jazz music as inspiration they "danced" their lines on their papers with black paint. They then filled in their space with many different colors.

In 4th grade we have been integrating a lot of science with our camouflage project! Students discussed animal adaptations, specifically highlighting different types of camouflage. We talked about how both predator and prey use camouflage for opposite reasons. Students then chose an animal that demonstrates camouflage in some way and painted a zoomed-in painting of that animal. The final step was to camouflage their own hand into their work and take a picture. In 4th grade we revisited an annual favorite with the monochromatic designs of the Willow Pattern. Students integrated some social studies and learn about trade in the 18th century between Europe and Asia. We talked about the Willow Pattern poem that explains the elements found in the pattern. Students then chose one or more elements of the pattern to create on their own plates using tints and shades of blue and adding a patterned border of their design.
