I recently got a Google Cardboard viewer for use in the classroom and it has been quite awesome so far! We use the cardboard viewer to visit new places that feature in our artworks. 2nd grade visited outer space and the northern lights during two science and art integration projects. 6th grade followed the work of an artist from New York, while 7th and 8th grade experienced winter landscapes in immersive photospheres after their Narnia inspired project. I plan to have other projects relate to places we can visit through Google Cardboard like the Great Barrier Reef and New York City.
Maple Grove also had the AMAZING opportunity to have Google Expeditions come visit for a day. Google Expeditions brings class sets of devices and cardboard viewers for classes to go on shared virtual field trips all over the world and beyond. Kids were able to have immersive experiences of places ranging from the Great Pyramids of Giza to the surface of the moon to the bottom of the ocean. Most art students were able to experience Google Expeditions either during our class or with their homeroom teacher.
