On September 15th, we celebrated International Dot Day in our classes. Dot Day is inspired by the wonderful story in The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. In The Dot, Vashti discovers that she was an artist all along and just had to believe in herself and to open her mind as she makes her dot paintings. I love the Vashti's story because in my art room we never say the word "can't", instead we say "I'll try," and Vashti starts the story by saying "I can't draw!" When she opens her mind and starts to make her mark she discovers that she can draw and much more. In each class we read the story and talked about Vashti and her journey and then we experimented with watercolors to create our very own dot paintings.
