Both the 1st grade and 1st-2nd grade classes looked at the illustrations of Maurice Sendak in Where the Wild Things Are. We talked about different textures and shapes his monsters had and how we could create our own. We also learned the new technique of watercolor resist (using crayons for outlines and details and adding watercolor later with the wax in the crayons allowing the details to stand out in the paint).
