In 7th/8th Grade Art Class we looked at adding texture to our paintings with rolled paper. We studied Amy Genser's art for inspiration. Check out her website here! She uses paper as pigment and constructs pieces by layering, cutting, rolling, and combining paper. She is fascinated by the flow of water, the shape of beehives, and the organic irregularity of plants, flowers, rock formations, barnacles, moss, and seaweed. For this project, students chose an aspect of nature as their inspiration and made an abstract painting background before adding rolled paper to turn their painting into a relief sculpture.
